The Museum of Arts and Design is partnering with the National Museum of the American Indian to prsneet a day-long, two-part program on Monday, June 25, that will focus on contemporary indigenous art from the perspective of aesthetics, ideas, contexts, and contrasts. Changing Hands CONNECTIONS: We Are Here includes discussions between organizing curators and participating artists in the contemporary Native art exhibitions organized by the two institutions and opening this summer in New York City: Changing Hands Art Without Reservation, Part 3 at the Museum of Arts and Design and We are Here: The Eiteljorg Contemporary Art Fellowship at the National Museum of the American Indian. The two-part conversation program will touch upon themes addressed in both exhibitions, including the use of contemporary aesthetics and techniques in today’s Native art and design practice as well as the reevaluation of what defines Native art.
